Dave Huber
I wrangle school data by day and play jazz or write plugins by night. Sometimes the other way around.
I'm the data manager for a K–8 school district in northern Illinois, but I've had a number of roles at the school since 1999. Nights and weekends I play jazz bass and guitar as much as I can, and write a lot of custom software every spare minute I can get.
Music
I've been playing bass since 1984. I started playing jazz guitar during COVID and still haven't figured it out. These days it's just local watering holes.
PowerSchool plugins
Most of my plugins started as "there has to be a better way" moments at my own desk. The long-term plan is to start offering full-blown PowerSchool solutions for pretty common challenges that schools face, but at least two of them seemed useful as-is, so I put them up on PowerSource for free.
EZPeriodTimes
This puts each class's start and end time under the class on Quick Lookup, Teacher Schedule and the parent portal. It reads your own bell schedules, so a late-start day shows late-start times.
EZ ExportPlus
This adds a field picker above the Quick Export box. Check the fields you want, click Insert, and export like you always do. I've got a much bigger version of this in the works.
Both of the free plugins listed are read-only. They add no tables, store nothing and talk to no outside servers. Uninstall is one click. Free, as is, no warranty. To be safe, please try them on a test server first. Not affiliated with PowerSchool. (The links go to PowerSource, which needs a PowerSchool login.)
Contact
So far these have only been tested at my own district, so I'd really like to hear how they behave at yours, especially if you run rotating schedules or multiple schools. Drop me a line with your PowerSchool version and browser. (No student data or screenshots with kids in them, please.)
